Ave Maria was built in the Early Fifties by Sir. W. Alcrow. The Resort is situated just meters from the Greenwich Meridian Rock.
Before the Queen’s visit in 1962, the late President, Nkrumah ordered that a chalet and swimming pool should be built for the Queen’s relaxation during her stay.
After the Queen’s visit the late President Nkrumah visited regularly and the flag was hoisted each time, indicating his presence.
Today the chalet is a Guest room, called the Queen’s Reading Room, guests get to overnight in this luxury and historical room, overlooking the pool.
